The TVOKids’ show “Giver” that was filmed in Amherstburg last summer is set to hit the airwaves June 1.

The show filmed construction of the accessible playground at the Libro Centre over a three-day period last August and has been shaped into a 30-minute episode of the series. The show is currently in its third season.

“Giver” personalities also interviewed local children who use the park, one of them being nine-year-old Arta Giles of Amherstburg.

“It was very fun,” Arta recalled of the experience. “I enjoyed working with all the machines and trying to figure out how they work. That’s why it was quite fun.”
Arta said she learned about tools and how they work and also helped out in laying the accessible flooring. She believes seeing the show will be “very cool” as she will not only see herself but others who helped make the playground a reality.

Arta regularly returns to the playground and enjoys knowing she helped make it a reality.

“I like seeing everything we built,” she said. “I’m so glad I was able to build this park. It makes me feel I can participate in this. It lightens my heart.”

Arta’s mother Christine said her daughter greatly enjoyed the experience, which included meeting “Giver” personalities like host Michael Lagimodiere.

Sadly last October we lost another cherished Miracle League Player from the Bombers Team, Eric Brinkman.  Eric was always happy and excited every time he came out to play baseball.  Eric and his parents Kerry & Ann had grown to cherish their time at the Miracle League.  They loved the players, music, fun and other players and families.  Most of all, Ann and Kerry enjoyed seeing their son participate in the game of baseball.

This past Saturday, May 9, 2015, we honoured Eric as a treasured part of the Miracle League family.  The dedication of a star on our Wall of Honour ensures that Eric will always be remembered and cherished as part of the Miracle League of Amherstburg.  Though Eric is no longer with us, we are certain he part of Team of Angels watching over the Miracle League in the outfield.  He will never be forgotten.
