Who knew that our amazing EMS could Chicken Dance, pitch and serve ice cream?  Man what a talent!

I got to talk with our EMS volunteers, Mike  & John about the Miracle League.  Mike told me he decided to volunteer at the Miracle League because he wanted to give back to the community and he also enjoyed the great stories he heard from the other EMS who volunteered.  Then after that I talked to his partner, John, and he said the Miracle League players are skillful and very inspirational.  They really enjoyed their time at the Miracle League.

Thanks for volunteering and the ice cream guys!

Amherstburg Firefighters Volleyball Day

On Saturday June 13th, The firefighters and Athletes celebrated the life of John "Wimpy" Tiefenbach. He was a former firefighter and hockey player in the town of Amherstburg.  According to Brian McGee, John was a great guy and well liked by everybody.

John started the Volleyball tournament over 25 years ago and it is still going strong. Some of the proceeds from the Volleyball tournament and the "toss a toonie and take a coolie" were donated to the Miracle League.

It was great to have some of the firefighters join us on the Miracle League diamond and to have Sparky hang out with Hunter sharing some dance moves and spending time with the players.

We had a fantastic day out at the Miracle League. The day was made even more special with the participation of the Amherstburg Fire Fighters who were on site to pitch & umpire for our players. Once again this year they were supporting the Miracle League as part of their annual volleyball tournament. We are grateful for their ongoing support of our players!

Do you ever wonder what it is like to work with someone with special needs?
Imagine being in a League where there are no outs, that as an athlete you get to feel the wind running through your hair as you round the bases with the help of your buddy.
Imagine doing the chicken dance, or being  a Mascot entertaining the players and the crowd.
You could be the closing pitcher to help tie the game or the umpire that calls the player “SAFE”!!

I challenge you to see how many volunteer jobs you can do ….UMPIRE, BUDDY, PITCHER, CATCHER, MASCOT…
I've  done them all and it was GREAT!!

It was a good day at the Miracle this past weekend for some of us.  We got through a great start but as we all know right before the 4th game, the skies opened up and the rain came pouring down.  It was more like a swim race then a baseball game.  Instead of us racing to our cars, we swam to them!
It was a crazy day for us but as always a day filled with baseball, laughter and fun times...rain or shine.
